Prof. Nimal De Silva

Prof. Nimal De Silva, a Chartered Architect with 40 years professional experience, an Archaeologist, Author, Art Historian, UNESCO Consultant on World Heritage, Consultant for Tourism Development Projects in Ajantha, Ellora, Sikim.
Managing Partner DEVECO architects, Padmapani Design & Publisher. In addition he is a Senior Professor at the University of Moratuwa, Director of the Postgraduate Institute of Archaeology & Research, President Sri Lanka Scout Association and Justice of Peace. He was also the Former Chairman of Urban Development Authority and National Design Centre for Crafts. Professor De Silva is currently the Director Genaral of the Central Cultural Fund and Cultural Triangle of Sri Lanka.
Thusitha
 Thusitha is the Managing Director of Magical Isle Holidays (Pvt.) Ltd, and is the main person in charge of overall sales and operations of this company. He is seen as one of the most knowledgeable and dynamic young tourism professionals in the country, who is always reading and traveling around to discover interesting places to offer new experiences to his clients. Having done his Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism and International Business, he is one of the very few professionals in Sri Lanka with an actual international tertiary qualification in tourism itself. Having spent close to six years studying and working overseas, Thusitha came back to Sri Lanka and was immediately offered a position at Jetwing Travels, which is one of the well reputed tour operators in the country, where he worked for two years as a Tour Operations Executive getting his first experience of working in the tourism industry of Sri Lanka.
During this time he did his MBA and also completed the NTGL course offered by the Sri Lanka Tourism Authority and obtained the National Tourist Guide Lecturer License for graduates, passing out with the highest score in his batch. He then took up a position as a Senior Sales Consultant at Red Dot Tours - an up market UK based Tourism Company, where he worked for over two years. Driven through his interest in the culture, history and the heritage of Sri Lanka, Thusitha completed his Post Graduate Diploma in Heritage Management at the Post Graduate Institute of Archeology and Research of the University of Kelaniya. Even during his childhood he was a born leader and was one of the best all-round students at S. Thomas’ College, Mt. Lavinia, one of the most eminent boy schools in the country where he was privileged to be appointed the Head Boy of his school.
Sumith
 Being brought up in Ratnapura, the gem city of Sri Lanka, Sumith has proven to be a gem himself to the tourism industry of Sri Lanka and for Magical Isle Holidays. He is one of the most experienced and well-known personalities in the industry with a wealth of experience in tourism. Sumith has been there and done it all; He has worked for several top tourism companies in the country over the years and has handled all types of markets and operation from FITs to charters. More famous by the name Himakara in the trade, Sumith joined with the Magical Isle Holidays team at the end of 2010 and now manages bulk of the markets and handles several most important accounts of the company.
He started his carrier in early 2002 with Travelanka Ltd. which was the travel arm of Confifi Group and was involved fulltime with FIT and Charter operations such as TAIPAN TOURISTK - Austria, DIREKT REISEN – Switzerland and AIRUS, which was the main operation from Russia at the time. In 2004 Sumith moved to Jetwing Travels with the TAIPAN Operation. During his 4 years stint with Jetwing Travels he was involved with the Middle-East, Europe and Excursions market of the company including the biggest operation of Meier's Weltreisen at different times, apart from the TAIPAN operation. In addition to that Sumith has handled the local operations of all three overseas offices of Jetwing Travels, in UK, Hungary and Italy. At the end of 2008 Sumith left Jetwing Travels and joined with a new UK based travel company called Senses Holiday as the Operations Manager, being responsible for all inbound and outbound operations. Sumith worked at Senses Holiday for 2 year before joining up with the Magical Isle Holidays team. Sumith’s inclusion to the team has made Magical Isle Holidays go from strength to strength without any doubt.
Thushara
 Thushara is a Doctor of Medicine by profession, and was qualified in Russia, where he spent 7 years studying at both People’s Friendship University in Russia and Gomel State Medical University in Belarus . He is extremely fluent in the Russian Language and is the main person handling all operations related to the Russian Tourism market. His carrier path changed from medicine to tourism after being encouraged by peers to do the NTGL course offered by the Sri Lanka Tourism Authority, which he passed with flying colours to obtain the National Tourist Guide Lecturer License for Graduates. But he still works as a doctor, part time, at a medical center to keep the knowledge refreshed.
Since 2006 Thushara has worked for almost all reputed tour operators in the country rendering his services as a Russian speaking National Tour Guide Lecturer gaining a wealth of knowledge and experience in the process. This has proven priceless for him now, in performing his duties in the company as Head of the Russian Market. Always a keen enthusiast in the culture and heritage of Sri Lanka, Thushara completed his Post Graduate Diploma in Heritage Management at the Post Graduate Institute of Archeology and Research at the University of Kelaniya in 2009. Though living in Colombo at Present, Thushara was brought up in Kuliyapitia, a village in the north western part of the country which gives him the experience and ability to seek out the authentic Sri Lankan flavor in the experience he gives to his tourist guests.
Roshan
 It is only fair to say that Tourism is in Roshan’s blood. He has been involved in tourism activities since childhood, as his father has been running a small but famous restaurant and a guest house in the well-known city of Dambulla for the last 30 years. Roshan studied at St Sylvester’s College in Kandy and flew to Italy for his higher studies. There he did his degree in Italian Language, Literature and Culture at the Dante Alighieri University in Firenze. Roshan studied and worked in Italy for more than 7 years before returning to Sri Lanka and got actively involved in the tourism industry there after.
He is in charge of sales and marketing for the Italian market at Magical Isle Holidays and has proven to be an asset from day one. He also holds the National Tourist Guide Lecturer License for Graduates after successfully completing the NTGL course offered by the Sri Lanka Tourism Authority. Roshan speaks Italian, German and English apart from his mother tounge Sinhala and has a good command of all four languages. He is very passionate about tourism in Sri Lanka and his all-round knowledge on many aspects of Sri Lanka is quite a commendable asset.
Aruni
 Aruni is yet another well qualified and experienced young tourism professional in Sri Lanka strengthening the Magical Isle Holidays team. She is a graduate in Tourism Management from the Sabaragamuwa University in Sri Lanka and is a keen bird watcher and nature lover. She worked for more than four years at Jetwing Eco Holidays, which is a well known nature tourism company in Sri Lanka specializing in bird watching and other niche market nature tours. During this time she got the opportunity to visit and experience most of the national parks, nature reserves and bird sanctuaries in the country with some of the most experienced professionals in the field, which she considers a great opportunity in her life that has given her a wealth of productive experience and knowledge.
She has also worked for almost two years at an Architecture Consultancy Company as the Accounts and Administration Manager. Her knowledge, capabilities and experience in different fields has made her an asset to the company, where she now overlooks accounts and administration work while performing her duties as the main person handling nature tours. Aruni’s willingness to gain more knowledge in different subject matters gave her the confidence to complete her Post Graduate Diploma in Heritage Management at the Post Graduate Institute of Archeology and Research of the University of Kelaniya. More than all, her charisma and cheerfulness has made her the live wire and the good luck charm of the entire team.
Isuru
Isuru is a skilled young all-rounder with a born talent for marketing. He is the Senior Tourism Marketing Consultant responsible for the sales and marketing of the non-traditional and emerging markets for tourism at Magical Isle Holidays. He was educated at S. Thomas’ Collage Mount Lavinia, one of the best boy schools in the country. Isuru is dynamic, knowledgeable and a well qualified professional holding a Masters Degree (MBA-USA), Bachelors Degree in Management and Information Systems (B.Sc. (Hon)-UK) and a Diploma in Economics (DIP Econ-UK) from the University of London. Isuru was employed for seven years at Sri Lankan Air Lines (UL), the national carrier of Sri Lanka. He joined Sri Lankan Airlines as a Management Trainee attached to the Sri Lanka Sales Team and was also involved in special projects, commercial division planning and marketing during his seven year tenure.
He was also under special training for one year, covering all the departments of the airline, including the international markets. Before joining Magical Isle Holidays, Isuru was holding the position of Deputy General Manager International Operations in one of the leading finance companies in Sri Lanka and was responsible for all International operations, customer relations and development of new markets. He has represented Sri Lanka as one of the youth leaders at the annual UN Youth Leadership Conference 2003 in Manila. Isuru’s inclusion has further strengthen the Magical Isle Holidays team and he has taken full responsibility to make sure that visitors from many new markets get the opportunity to enjoy Sri Lanka through Magical Isle Holidays.
Nuwangi
 Nuwangi is the Accounts Executive at Magical Isle Holidays and is responsible for all day to day accounts activities of the operation. Before joining the Magical Isle Holidays team in mid 2010, she has worked at few other companies performing accounts related duties. Nuwangi has completed her finals at the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) Sri Lanka and will be continuing her further studies in accounting on a part time basis.
Working in a tourism company has given her the opportunity to travel around the country and visit new places with the sales and operations team, which she thinks is a privilege and a rare opportunity for an accounting professional. However, she hates drinking more than five glasses of papaya juice as welcome drinks, when on hotels inspection tours. She is an old girl of OLV Convent in Moratuwa.
Saranga
 Saranga joined Magical Isle Holidays as an Operations Executive at the beginning of year 2011. She has proven to be excellent at all her duties and has managed to become a key member of the team in no time. She studied at Samudradevi Girls’ School in Colombo and is currently following an external B.com degree at the University of Jayawardenapura in Colombo during the weekends.
Destiny has directed her towards getting her very first job in a tourism company, which was totally unplanned. However, she loves her job and the tourism trade and has already decided that her future goal would be to become a top tourism professional in the country. Saranga loves the part of her job where she gets to travel around the country, explore new places and hotel properties. She also likes reading booked and articles on various different subject areas during her free time.
