History and Ramayana Trail |

Day 01: Get picked p from the airport and transfer to Anuradhapura.
Accommodation and dinner at Galway Miridiya Lodge or Palm Garden Village Hotel, Anuradhapura.

Day 02: Have an early breakfast and visit the places of interest in Anuradhapura, the first historical capital city with many cultural and religious attractions (UNESCO World Heritage Site)
Proceed to Polonnaruwa in the afternoon and see the many cultural ruins of the second capital of Sri Lanka with a huge Hindu influence.
On completion proceed to Sigiriya or Habrana for overnight stay.

Day 03: Visit and climb the famous Sigiriya Rock Fortress (UNESCO World Heritage Site).
On completion proceed to Kandy.
Do a brief city tour and visit the Sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic of The Buddha (UNESCO World Heritage Site).

Day 04: After breakfast proceed to Nuwara Eliya. On rout visit the Sri Baktha Hanuman Temple, Ramboda. Ramboda area is believed to be an area where Lord Rama’s forces were gathered against King Ravana. Ram Padai means Rama’s Force. The hills of Ramboda are also believed to be the area where Lord Hanuman was searching for Sitadevi. The statue of Lord Hanuman here is 16 feet high.
Also visit Gayathri Patam and Kandakalai in Nuwara Eliya, both of which are places related to Ramayana. Optional - visit a Tea Factory and a plantation to see how the world famous Ceylon Tea is manufactured.

Day 05: After breakfast Visit Seetha Amman Temple, Seetha Eliya - The stream that runs from the hill, catered to the needs of Sitadevi during her stay at Ashoka Vatika. She is said to have bathed in this stream. Now there is temple for Lord Rama, Sitadevi, Luxshmana, and Hanuman by the side of this stream. It is interesting to note that foot prints akin to Lord Hanuman's are found by this river.
Also visit the Boanical Gardens in Hakgala, a place with many stories related to Ramayana.
On completion proceed to Katharagama. On rout see the Ella Rock where Sitadevi has been hidden and the huge Ravana Falls on the Ella Rock, behind which is a cave where Sitadevi was kept and she has bathed from the Ravana Falls.
In the evening or early next morning visit the famous Murugan Temple and Shrine in Kataragama in time for the pooja. This holy shrine is also related to the Ramayana.

Day 06: After breakfast head towards Galle along the southern costal line.
On rout visit Ussangoda an area that was lit up and totally burned down when Lord Hanuman’s tail was set on fire by King Ravana’s army. The area still has burned particles every where on a large flat land where there is no vegetation even now. The soil still looks a different colour with the burned particles. It is also said that an airport which belongs to King Ravana was located here and it caught fire when Lord Hanuman’s tail was set on fire.
Also you will go pass Dondra, the southern most tip of the island, which is one of the places from which the Vanara Kings launched their onslaught on King Ravanas Army.
In Unawatuna visit the Romassala Hill. This is believed to be a part of the Sanjeewani Mountain in Himalaya, which was dropped by Lord Hanuman when he was carrying it from air to get the medicinal plants to heal the wounds of Lord Rama and Lakshman who were injured in the battle. There are five such places in Sri Lanka where it is believed that Lord Hanuman has dropped parts of the Sanjeewani Mountain. All these places have similar vegetation with medicinal plats found in the Himalayas.

Day 07: Have and early breakfast and visit the famous 17th century Dutch Fort in Galle (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and proceed to Colombo.
In the afternoon do a brief city tour and visit some main places of interest for shopping.

Day 08: Have breakfast at the hotel and visit the famous Kelaniya Temple, where there is aThe only Vibheeshana Temple Shrine in Sri Lanka. On completion proceed to the airport. |
